What you are seeing
The AgenShield menu bar shows a card:Claude Code — Not installed. Install & shield with AgenShield. InstallIt can appear even though Claude Code is installed, and even while the Agents count in the same menu includes it. A related symptom on some Macs set up by hand from the command line: running
claude in a terminal prints
What it means
Both come from an earlier generation of AgenShield that ran AI agents from a separate copy it installed and managed itself. Current versions protect an agent where it is already installed: your organization’s policy applies to it without AgenShield installing, reinstalling or wrapping anything. The card checked for Claude Code in only a few fixed locations, so it missed common installs — for example through Homebrew or a Node version manager — and Macs set up by device management. The terminal message comes from an old AgenShieldclaude launcher that some manual installs placed ahead of the real
Claude Code on your PATH.
Your protection is not affected by either. The status card at the top of the
menu still shows whether the Mac is protected.
What to do
- Ignore the card, and do not choose Install. It would install a separate copy of Claude Code and several developer tools on the Mac, which AgenShield does not need.
-
If
claudeprints the message above, update AgenShield. To confirm it is the old launcher first, run:The first result is the old launcher when its first lines mentionAgenShield Claude Code Launcher. The next result in the list is your own Claude Code.
Versions
- Affected:
2026.9.1and earlier. - Fixed in: the first release after
2026.9.1. AgenShield never offers to install or wrap an AI agent. The update removes the oldclaudelauncher and puts back any Claude Code it had replaced, and it only ever touches files that AgenShield itself wrote.
When to escalate
Collect a diagnostics bundle (see Collecting diagnostics) and contact support if, after updating:- the card still appears; or
claudestill prints the message above, or no longer starts at all.
